Description:
Former home of the painter Oswaldo Guayasamín (1919-1999), this museum houses the most complete collection of the artist's work. Guayasamín was also an avid collector, and the museum displays his outstanding collection of pre-Columbian ceramic, bone and metal pieces, as well as Catholic religious works by indigenous Quito School (Escuela Quiteña) artists. It opened as a public museum in 2012. The artist's studio is also preserved. The house was built by the architect Gustavo Guayasamin, Oswaldo's brother. It was meant to be able to accommodate painting large format works; it was also always planned to be a museum. Oswaldo also provided sketches to guide the design.
